Summer is on the horizon and that means the return of the Vic Park Summer Street Party on Sunday 24 November from 1-9pm.
With up to 50,000 people expected to usher in the start of Summer, the Albany Highway café strip will be closed from Dane to Sussex Streets to allow the festivities to stretch along the road as local community groups, schools, businesses and residents unite to bring you the very best of Vic Park.
Another terrific reason to be there this year is to help celebrate is the Town of Victoria Park’s 25th birthday, which will be a key focus of the festival as the Town marks this milestone with a tribute to the 90s and a dose of retro!
Locals and visitors alike are invited to attend the family fun and inclusive event featuring live entertainment, handmade craft and unique market stalls, free face painting, free kids’ activities, gourmet food, roaming performers, carnival rides, sustainability information and activities along with much more.
Mayor Karen Vernon said this year’s birthday edition of the Vic Park Summer Street Party promised to showcase the very best the Town has to offer.
“The Town of Victoria Park has a vibrant and diverse community. The Summer Street Party is the flagship event that continues to reflect this year after year.
“Whether it’s the huge range of delicious food and beverages, quirky gifts or family-friendly entertainment you’re after, it’s a great day for locals and visitors alike.
“It’s going to be the biggest birthday bash the Town has ever seen.”
Highlights of the 2019 Vic Park Summer Street Party include:
• Rhubarb Records Main Stage packed with live music giving a taste of summer, headlined by Grace Barbe and featuring other acts such as Flewnt, Butter, Dideon’s Bible and Surf Mist
• pop-up bars serving local craft beers from Dutch Trading Co and Balmoral Hotel
• plenty of retail therapy with local business specials and market stalls just in time for Christmas shopping
• dance aplenty with performances from Bollywood Dance, Chinese Community Lion dancers and Swing It! Dance
• a specially curated exhibition showcasing local artists at the Balmoral Hotel
• Christina’s Restaurant will host its own program of drag queen performers who will join forces with the event parade
The highlight of the evening will be a Lantern Parade composed of local school students and musicians weaving their way through the Festival to a showcase of music from the past 25 years. Students will hold aloft lanterns they have created in workshops which will illuminate their pathway after the sun goes down.
Vic Park Summer Street Party is extremely proud to partner with the Healthy Relationships Strategy Group as they launch their 25 Ways campaign. They’ll be on site, offering 25 suggestions to create happier and healthier relationships. The campaign serves to promote awareness, prevention and early intervention strategies to end domestic violence in our communities.
Parking will be available with a gold coin donation at John Macmillan Park, but patrons are encouraged to walk or use public transport where possible.
Event organisers UpBeat Events are also urging festival-goers to recognise that the Vic Park Summer Street Party is a sustainable event, and aim to recover as many resources as possible to avoid waste. UpBeat Events celebrates the community’s role in ensuring events are sustainable and responsible now and for the future.
The Vic Park Summer Street Party is presented by the Town of Victoria Park and supported by Lotterywest, Victoria Park Community Centre and Channel 9.
