Entries Open for the 9th Annual Blue Heeler Film Festival 2022

The Blue Heeler Film Festival,’organised by Muswellbrook Shire Council and sponsored by Bengalla, is coming back to Muswellbrook for its ninth year. Film submissions are FREE and now open!

The finalist screenings and awards night of the festival to be held in Denman on Saturday 22rd October will showcase the incredible talents of short filmmakers nationwide and will be followed by a family friendly public screening of the films at Simpson Park in Muswellbrook on Sunday 23rd October. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Working Dog’ in the context of a dog used to perform practical tasks as opposed to pets. The theme can be interpreted as conceptually as filmmakers see fit. Entries are open to films of any genre that run no longer than seven minutes. With two categories, the Blue Heeler Film Festival encourages film makers, emerging and experienced, to enter and celebrate the craft of storytelling.

Secondary School – Entries of filmmakers aged 14-18 years

Open Category – Entries of filmmakers aged 18 years and over

Successful entries in the Open Category will vie for the $10,000 first prize while the Secondary School winner will receive a $5,000 first prize. Both winners will also receive the coveted Golden Bluey trophy. Prizes will also be awarded for ‘Best Directing’ and more!

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle School of Creative Industries, the Blue Heeler Film Festival will be providing a number of workshops to local high schools and the general public. These workshops aim to educate and encourage young or emerging filmmakers in the Muswellbrook Region on how to make their short film dreams a reality.
