Wingman Pictures International has entered a new chapter with veteran film executive Ian Hale joining the company as a partner with CEO Matt Norman.
Ian Hale has been a familiar face in the Perth and Australian film industry for over 25 years in senior management roles including State Manager WA/SA/NT for Paramount Pictures. He has also been a senior manager with Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation through his role with United International Pictures. He is currently involved with several films in development and in production as producer and executive producer and has also in recent years established The Backlot Perth, a private cinema that also services the film industry as a world class colour grade and post-production facility.
Wingman Pictures CEO Matt Norman said bringing Ian Hale on board had been in the works for some years after Ian represented his award-winning film Salute through Paramount Pictures.
“We have now lined up several projects that are in varying stages of development, pre-production and production through the new arrangement and are thrilled to be working side by side on these new projects,” Matt said.
“Ian has built a formidable reputation over his years in the industry, not to mention a sound knowledge of and passion for film.
Ian Hale said he was excited to partner with Wingman Pictures.
“After working with Matt over a decade ago on Salute I’m excited to co-partner and team with Wingman Pictures International in producing films with integrity, humanitarian issues and social substance at their core,” Ian said.
The first project under the new Wingman Pictures International banner will be a documentary feature, Blackmob Heroes, to be co-produced with Olympian and former Senator, Nova Peris.
Blackmob Heroes tells of the lost and forgotten Aboriginal heroes during Australia’s wartime operations throughout history.
Matt and Ian are also working on the new feature film Tracked – The Shirley Strickland Story which tells the story of Olympic great Shirley Strickland. Written by Dave Warner (Garage Days, McLeod’s Daughters, and Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS), and Shirley’s son Matthew De La Hunty with co-producers including Suzanne Worner from Revelation Perth International Film Festival and executive producer Ben Young (Hounds of Love, Extinction).
Wingman Pictures are also currently negotiating with partners to tell the currently un-titled Peter Norman feature film. This will be the final chapter in celebrating Olympic Silver Medallist Peter Norman’s incredible story of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and his involvement in the famous Black Power Protest. With Matt Norman’s documentary film Salute still screening on TV and at international festivals ten years after it was made, the dream to tell Peter’s story to a worldwide audience is close to becoming a reality.
