Filming commenced in Brisbane today on a new romantic comedy feature film, All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane.
The movie is a spiritual sequel to the 2007 cult hit All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane, and comes from same creative team, director Louise Alston (Lick, Back of the Net) and writer Stephen Vagg (Darby and Joan, Neighbours).

The plot involves Cris (Nelle Lee - Shake & Stir Theatre, The Inbetweeners 2) who returns to Brisbane after being in London for a decade, having just been dumped by her fiancé. She finds herself working alongside her ex-boyfriend Scooter (Andrew Steel - Wish Man, Home and Away) who refused to leave Brisbane to be with Cris ten years ago, and is now married with a child.
“It’s not a direct sequel to the original,” explains Alston, “but it takes place in the same universe and has a similar mixture of humour, romance and heart.”
“All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane is about people returning to their hometown after having been away for a long time and finding what has and hasn’t changed. It explores what it means to confront lost love, old friends, and finding a place to settle. It’s a very Brisbane story but also a universal one.”
The cast of All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane also includes Kym Jackson (We Bury the Dead, NCIS) as Michelle, Cris’ best friend; Dan Ewing (Love and Monsters, Occupation Rainfall) as Hutcho, an old school friend turned tycoon; Tim Ross (Eden, Wonderland) as Aram, Michelle’s husband; Brooke Lee (Lick, Mako Mermaids) as Ainsley, Scooter’s wife; and Julian Curtis (Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Dance Academy) as Toby, Cris’ possible new love interest.
The film is being shot in various locations around Brisbane including New Farm, West End and the CBD. Alston, Steel and Vagg are also producers of the film, which is being made through Bunker Productions International.
