Existential Psychological Thriller 'BAYAAR (Dust and the Wind)' Starring Vinay Pathak Set for Australian Premiere

PRESS RELEASE

FilmsPositive is thrilled to announce the Australian Premiere of their highly anticipated second feature film, a psychological thriller, “BAYAAR (Dust and the Wind)”, in the first week of December 2025. This Hindi-language movie, starring acclaimed Indian actor, Vinay Pathak, promises to be a compelling addition to the Australian film calendar, particularly for fans of thoughtful international and Indian cinema.

The Film: An Existential Crisis in the Himalayas

Directed by the London-based, BIFA (British Independent Film Awards) Springboard FellowAnshul Tiwari, “Bayaar” (Hindi for ‘The Wind’) is a profound meditation on life, death, and redemption, inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre’s play Huis Clos (‘No Exit’).

The film follows three lost friends who are trapped in a serene, yet chilling, mountain lodge. As their jeep breaks down, the retreat becomes a final threshold — a place where they must confront their deepest sins and illusions before moving on.Shot entirely in the breathtaking Himalayan mountains of Himachal Pradesh, India, the 90-minute drama features transformative performances by Vinay Pathak (known for ‘Bheja Fry’), alongside Shalmalee Vaidya and Rachita Arke.

A Strong Connection to Australian Shores

The film has already gained recognition within the Australian film landscape, having been selected as an Official Selection of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM360), underscoring its appeal to a broad Australian and Indian diaspora audience living in Australia.

The creative team behind ‘Bayaar’ has a proven track record in the ANZ region. Director Anshul Tiwari’s debut feature, ‘Before Life After Death, which premiered at the Singapore International Film Festival, was acquired by Netflix for streaming across the Asia Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand, solidifying the director's relevance to local viewers.

Indie International Production

‘Bayaar’ is a truly international production, with its country of origin listed as Singapore, partner countries including India and the United Kingdom, and key post-production — including Music, Edit, Sound Design, and Grade — completed in London, Brighton, and Glasgow. This multicultural collaboration brings a sophisticated global aesthetic to a deeply rooted Indian narrative.

A Note from the Director

"From dust we come, unto dust we go. We are travellers in the wind," says Director Anshul Tiwari. "This film is set in an alternate reality, offering a look at life through the eyes of death. It challenges the notion that death is something to be feared, instead portraying it as a peak moment of acceptance and forgiveness."

The Australian premiere of BAYAAR (Dust and the Wind) will take place in the first week of December 2025 across the continent with the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM360).
