Introducing MUBI Cinema Club - a new seasonal film series that brings handpicked films to independent cinemas across Melbourne.

MUBI Cinema Club is a seasonal event series that will bring handpicked films to cinemas across Melbourne. Each event will be held at a different cinema and, before each screening, MUBI will host a special event that extends the film's world, bringing together local restaurants, artists, and creatives.

Cinema Club is MUBI’s way of supporting Melbourne’s cinema culture and independent venues. This winter, screenings of three powerful films about family, desire, and violence take place at three different venues, curated for a special local experience.

Each pre-screening special event is designed to extend the film's world into life, for AMORES PERROS at Cinema Nova with food from Frankie’s Tortas and Tacos paired with a photo exhibit by ALMANAQUE-Fotográfica; NO OTHER CHOICE at Lido Cinemas; with a workshop by Dodgy Paper and snacks by Sogumm; and ROSEBUSH PRUNING at Brunswick Picture House with a special installation by Soya Florist, paired with a cocktail by Carnation Bar.

All events are free and reservations open July 13th at 12 PM AEST. Further details below, and explore the event collection here

EVENT 2: NO OTHER CHOICE
Wednesday, August 26, 6:00 PM | Lido Cinema, Hawthorn | FREE

Park Chan-wook's 2025 film opens with a scene of perfection, as a sunset bathes a luxurious home in warm golden light. But the writer-director soon introduces a chaotic story that puts every part of this peaceful setting at risk. Gardening weaves its way through the story, leading to moments that are both darkly funny and sharply focused.

The screening will be catered by Richmond-based Korean fine-dining institution Sogumm who are providing Korean snacks. While Dodgy Paper will host an interactive recycled paper-making workshop, where guests will create their own paper to take home.

EVENT 3: ROSEBUSH PRUNING
Tuesday, September 8, 6:00 PM | Brunswick Picture House | FREE

Karim Aïnouz's 2026 film takes place in a modernist house in Spain, where a family calls themselves "vapid egotists." Flashy style tries to distract from the secrets hiding in their stylish home. The rosebush stands out, offering its bold, suggestive petals to this darkly funny look at family decay.

The event will see Carnation Bar providing a film inspired ‘A Perfect Rose’ cocktail for guests while Soya Florist will present a floral installation which will transform the cinema into a garden.
