NANSIE Set to Premiere at The Ritz Cinemas

PRESS RELEASE

The intimate and deeply moving documentary Nansie will enjoy its first public screening at The Ritz in Randwick, right around the corner from where its profound personal drama unfolds.

Distributed by Screen Inc (Ice Maiden, The Koalas, Fight to Live), Nansie is a poetic, deeply moving documentary that will strike a chord with everybody.

Like so many Aussie kids, sisters Adelaide and Lucinda Miller were partially brought up by their nanna Ann, Nansie. Roles were reversed when Nansie was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. Now adults, Adelaide and Lucinda are initially frustrated and confused about Nansie’s unpredictable behaviour, but as they embark on a four-year journey of discovery – one that tests the limits of what is possible within the confines of the disease as well as themselves as occasional carers for their grandmother – they also learn to accept things and to appreciate Nansie more than ever.

'More than 1.5 million Australians care for someone living with dementia, it is the second leading cause of death for all women,' says Nansie director Anna Trichet Laurier. 'I chose to tell the sisters’ story because it is a universal one and I believe that it is a journey that can inspire anyone. It is a gentle approach to the complex condition that is dementia for a younger audience and their families.'

'Nansie is also sharing a lot of her thoughts, allowing us to get a glimpse of what’s happening in the world of someone living with dementia. I wanted to offer a genuine insight into what many carers are going through, showing the good and the bad moments without any filters.'

With much of Nansie playing out in the ocean pools and on the beaches of Malabar, Maroubra and South Coogee, it is wholly fitting that this highly relatable and beautifully made documentary will enjoy its first public screening – along with a special Q&A session with sisters Adelaide and Lucinda Miller, hosted by Tahyna MacManus afterwards – at the nearby Ritz Cinema in Randwick. More screenings will be announced for the rest of Australia soon.

Nansie will screen at The Ritz in Randwick on Wednesday July 16 at 7pm, and will be followed by a special Q&A with Adelaide and Lucinda Miller hosted by Tahyna MacManus.
