Outback Film Festival Marks 13 Years of Bringing Australian Cinema to Winton

As winter approaches, Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival is preparing to once again transform Winton into a national gathering place for Australian cinema.

Now entering its 13th year, the festival remains Australia’s only outback film festival — a nine-day celebration of Australian storytelling delivered in one of the country’s most distinctive regional settings.

Since its inception in 2013, Vision Splendid has welcomed filmmakers, actors, industry professionals and audiences from across the country to Outback Queensland, contributing to June visitation and regional cultural programming.

Delivered as a not-for-profit event, the festival reinvests ticket revenue, grant funding and partnerships directly into local venues, regional suppliers and the technical delivery required to present cinema in a remote environment. Continued community and industry support remains essential to ensuring the festival can return each year and continue to grow.

Each year, heritage theatres, community spaces and open-air settings across Winton become screening venues, creating an experience that blends destination travel with national film culture.

“Vision Splendid has always been about placing Australian stories in a setting that reflects their spirit,” festival Creative Director, Dr Gregory Dolgopolov said. “It’s a uniquely regional event that connects audiences not just to film, but to place.”

The 2026 festival program will be released on April 20, offering audiences a first look at the films, special guests and events set to take place across the nine-day celebration.

Winton is open and ready to welcome visitors, with local authorities working closely with key stakeholders to support travel into the region.

“There’s nothing quite like experiencing world‑class movies under the Outback skies. Winton is very much open and looking forward to welcoming you to the 2026 Vision Splendid Film Festival— we can’t wait to share the magic of Vision Splendid Festival in the heart of the Outback.” said Mayor Cathy White of Winton Shire Council.

With festival passes now available, organisers are encouraging audiences to make the journey to Winton this June/July and experience the program as part of a broader Outback Queensland road trip.

As an independent, not-for-profit event, Vision Splendid also relies on the generosity of its community. Those unable to attend are encouraged to support the festival through donations, helping ensure Australian stories continue to be celebrated under outback skies for years to come.
