Australia will finally get the footy game it deserves, with Pro Jank Footy to release across all major platforms in 2026, and to celebrate the team has just dropped a brand new trailer.
Australia’s most chaotic footy match isn’t happening at a suburban oval next winter, it’s happening on your screen. Pro Jank Footy, the absurd, frenetic and proudly unhinged Australian Rules footy game, voiced by Aunty Donna's Broden Kelly, is now set to release across all major consoles including PlayStation (PS5), Microsoft Xbox (Series X|S), Nintendo (Switch, Switch 2) as well as PC and Steamdeck in 2026, bringing its high-energy arcade action and distinctive comedic personality to players everywhere.
Pro Jank Footy blends the immediacy of classic arcade sports games like NBA Jam and NHL ‘94 with the unpredictability of local Aussie Rules. Designed for solo play, couch multiplayer and quick-fire sessions, the game captures the wild energy, humour and spontaneity of grassroots footy.
At the heart of the game’s personality are two major Australian creative forces: international comedy icon Broden Kelly (Aunty Donna), who provides the commentary and serves as the unmistakable voice of the game, and creative director David Ashby, the cult comedy film and television creator (Danger 5), whose comedic sensibilities and world-building instincts shape Pro Jank Footy’s distinctive tone. Alongside co-creator and lead developer Tyler Roach and producer Cam Rogers, they bring a uniquely Australian blend of humour, storytelling and footy insight to the game.
Fast, physical and full of dramatic momentum swings, driven by a signature mechanic: whenever a goal is scored, the opposing team draws a randomised power-up card. These cards introduce instant game-changing effects, from shifting field conditions to transforming players into seagulls, Dad’s Car or shopping trolleys (correct), making every match feel dramatic, strategic and delightfully chaotic.
Developed by Adelaide-based studios Powerbomb Games and Tinker Town, Pro Jank Footy is supported by Umbrella Gaming, the newly launched gaming division of Umbrella Entertainment. As the division’s first major title, Pro Jank Footy represents a significant step in Umbrella’s expansion into interactive entertainment, and with console versions now confirmed, the game becomes one of the few new Australian-made titles to launch simultaneously across all major platforms.
“There’s never really been a video game that captures the energy and ridiculousness of our national pastime, so we set out to change that. We love Australian Rules Football.” says Pro Jank Footy co-creator David Ashby “It’s an incredibly fast and strange sport that’s best described as two classrooms chasing a ball. We’re also fully aware that nobody outside the country knows what the “Aussie Rules” is. Pro Jank Footy takes these two key ingredients and packages them as a comedic retro sports game where you’re constantly changing the rules. It celebrates the madness of “Aussie Rules” whilst still delivering an authentic arcade footy experience fans have hoped for, and an accessible entry point for anyone new to the sport."
“Today we rise as the new Kings of the gaming world.” adds Broden Kelly “You will all kneel before us, join us or die. Tencent, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony have been complacent for too long, they have let their guard down. Our independent game about Australian football will soon rule you all.”
Adding another layer of absurdity, charm and unmistakably Australian character to each match, Pro Jank Footy also introduces a line-up of proudly ridiculous suburban clubs, each with their own off-beat lore and team anthems performed and composed by Danger 5 co-creator Dario Russo. Fans will take the field with outfits like the Freecastle Fizzies (“where there’s bubbles, there’s trouble”), the North Problem, the Salisbury Park Snags, the South Coast Prawns, and the Stone Valley Pinks - a pack of galahs.
Already building huge early momentum, the game saw packed demo sessions at PAX Australia (where it was widely hailed as one of 2026’s most exciting Australian releases), SXSW Sydney and Freeplay Parallels, with audiences embracing its fast gameplay, humour and distinctive Australian identity.
With the console versions now confirmed, Pro Jank Footy is gearing up for a massive 2026 season. From 23 February to 2 March, fans can jump into the action early as the game features in Steam Next Fest, with a playable demo available for a limited time. More details, including fresh gameplay updates and the official release date, will be revealed in the coming months. Players can wishlist the game on Steam now, download the demo during Next Fest, and stay tuned as Australia’s most chaotic footy title readies itself to take the field.
