“The success of Shallow Breath was very humbling and I’ve had a solid year of development thanks to VicScreen to get the feature script market ready which is incredibly exciting. Huge thanks to Susan Schmidt and Michele Turnure-Salleo for completely kicking my butt over twelve months to take the script to the next level.”
While the Shallow Breath feature project travels the international markets over the following months, Studsor has his sights on directing a new short film called The Retained. “The plot is engineered for economic production and maximum tension and I envision the film to be “Succession meets Parasite” with an eye for social commentary around finding the line between right and wrong in a world of entitlement and exploitation.”
The difficulties of independent filmmaking are always a combination of creative, practical and financial which can be challenging, and Studsor is thankful that people are prepared to support the artform.
“It’s no secret that the funding opportunities for short films are unfortunately minimal and even the simplest short film is expensive to make and submit to festivals. all Australian filmmakers rely on the goodwill and generosity of contributors and without their support we wouldn’t be able to do it at all. I have the deepest gratitude to anyone who supports us whether it’s financial or letting an actor borrow a pair of socks. It all matters and it all helps!”
