PRESS RELEASE
As the Perth Comedy Festival draws near, anticipation is building for an unforgettable lineup of international and local talent. And, before we reveal the full line-up next month, let's tease you with some of the most exciting comedians from around the globe and across the land.
Don’t miss Red Richardson (UK) on his first visit to Australia for an hour of hard-hitting stand-up with Bugatti Live at the Rechabite on April 29 – a show that he’s recently toured all over the US and UK, including two sold out shows at the LA Comedy Store as well as the iconic Shepards Bush Empire in London. The critically acclaimed comedian and podcast host is quickly becoming one of the UK’s brightest comedic talents and boasts Ricky Gervais as one of his fans.
Aussie lads Zachary Ruane and Alexei Toliopoulos take over the Rechabite on May 9. Ruane, best known as a member of Aunty Donna, joins Toliopoulos; a writer, comedian, podcaster and film critic for an unforgettable night of belly laughs recounting the history of Margaret and David in a strange hybrid of comedy show/documentary/verbatim theatre that is not to be missed.
Prakash Daniel (IND) makes his highly anticipated Perth debut with Lobster Boy on May 8 at The Rechabite. One of India’s rising comedy stars, Daniel blends personal stories from his childhood in India with sharp, insightful takes on modern life. His ability to bridge cultural gaps with humour guarantees a performance that’s as thought provoking as it is hilarious.
Vivek Mahbubani (HK) returns to Perth for a one-night-only show at the Heath Ledger State Theatre on May 3. Known for his bilingual stand-up (in Cantonese and English), Mahbubani’s comedy offers a unique perspective on the everyday life of Indians in Hong Kong, combining his experiences as a musician, award-winning designer and MC into a dynamic and entertaining performance.
Also on the bill, the uproarious Jake Howie (NZ), one of comedy’s hottest up-and-coming acts, cult favourite on the Australian comedy scene and master of the unexpected, Nick Capper, and Perth local and self-confessed hot-mess Nikki Justice.
The festival presents specialty events including 100% Scottish Comedy – an unapologetic celebration of Scotland’s unique culture, wit and charming quirky sensibilities (slàinte!), Teacher Comedy Night hosted by award-winning comedian and ex-teacher Daniel Delby; Future Science Talks: Comedy Edition, where you hear a series of short talks from Perth’s best and brightest emerging science professionals and learn and laugh at the same time as well as The Confessional where you can anonymously write down your deepest confession and put it in the box for Daniel Delby and Cameron McLaren to read out.
