PRESS RELEASE
Forget what you think you know about travel shows. Part travelogue, part challenge, part call-to-action, Wheel Around the World: Taiwan is here with a clear message: Accessibility isn’t a “nice-to-have.” It’s a necessity.
Presented by Screen Australia, Wheel Around the World: Taiwan is the latest chapter in the hit web series by accessibility advocate and unapologetic adventurer, Shane Hryhorec. It’s the first travel series to explore the entire country of Taiwan through the lens of a disability and has been launched on YouTube right in time for International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
Across five episodes released over five weeks, Shane tears up sandy beaches on quad bikes, weaves through mountain roads, stumbles across hidden hot springs, and learns just how hard it can be to access a local bathroom. Along the way, he invites viewers into the daily reality for people with disabilities in Taiwan from joyful moments of connection to the barriers no one has talked about until now.
“This is my most ambitious series yet,” says Shane. “I wanted to see if I could make it all the way around Taiwan and more importantly, what that journey would reveal about accessibility and inclusion in a country that’s rarely explored through this lens.”
With over 200 million views and counting in only 12 months, Wheel Around the World has firmly established itself as a leading voice in accessible travel. From bustling cities to remote beaches, Shane’s journeys have so far spanned ten countries, bringing visibility to both the possibilities and the limitations of accessible travel worldwide.
One of his most talked-about series follows Shane’s attempt to board the Disney Cruise with his service dog Whitney, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the logistical, emotional, and bureaucratic hurdles that rarely make it onto the screen.
“Globally, 1 in 6 people live with a disability, but accessible travel content remains significantly underrepresented in mainstream media,” says Shane. “We’re here to change that.”
