Welcome to the Curb's first reader survey.
Oddly, I've (Andrew, the guy who runs the site) never run a reader survey in the eight years we've been trucking along. Not that I haven't wanted to hear from you about how we're doing - we really wouldn't be much in the way of critics if we couldn't receive critical attention ourselves - but more because, well, it's just never happened.
So, here I am, almost a year after shifting over to a newsletter format with paid options, coming to you, our readers and listeners from around the world, asking you about what you like, dislike, or want to see from this hyper-independent website going forward.
We're using this survey to get a better understanding of our reader's demographics, tastes, interests, and how the Curb can continue to support film and culture in Australia.
I'm also going to use this to hopefully finesse the scope of what we give to you, our audience. I've always said that the Curb exists because it's the kind of website that I like reading, and I'm beyond lucky to be able to interview the people I get to interview. I don't take what we do for granted. I'm also grateful that it's clear that there's an audience out there who similarly enjoys reading a website like this one. I'm happy that one person reads or listens to what we do, but am beyond thrilled that thousands of you from around the world listen and read what we do.
What I am to use the feedback for is to further understand who you are. Who are the thousands of people reading the Curb? Why do you like the Curb? Equally so, I'm eager to find out how filmmakers and creatives feel about the support the Curb gives them. Then, I'm also eager to hear what readers or listeners would like to see from the Curb in the coming months, and if you're a paid subscriber, what you would like to receive for your support.
We run the Curb outside of our paid jobs or other activities and do it for the passion of arts and culture. To help inform some of your answers, we tend to decide what we cover based on what interests us. Our time is valuable, but so is yours, so we do want to make sure that what we provide you is the kind of thing you want to read or listen to.
Comments left in the survey may be used to help market or boost awareness of the Curb.
If you're taking the time to read this and provide feedback, thank you! Your time is precious; we aimed to make this survey something you can complete in 10-15 minutes. While we'd love it if you answered all relevant questions, please feel free to skip any you don't feel comfortable in answering. Please also share this with anyone who might like to provide a response.
At the end, you have the option to submit your name to win a prize pack. (Open to Australian residents only.)
This survey will be accepting submissions until Sunday 18 October 2026.
If you have any questions or feedback outside of this survey, feel free to drop us an email to contact@thecurb.com.au
Even if you don't respond to this survey, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has visited or supported the Curb. It means a lot.
