the Curb is owned and operated by Andrew F. Peirce (Boorloo-Perth) author of Lonely Spirits and the King: An Australian Film Book and co-chair of the Australian Film Critics Association (AFCA). Fellow AFCA co-chair, Nadine Whitney (Naarm-Melbourne), is co-editor.
the Curb creates conversations about films and culture from an Australian perspective. While our focus is on Australian cinema and the filmmakers who bring it to life, we also listen to and elevate independent voices of the world.
Through in-depth reviews, articles, and interviews, the Curb steadfastly reinforces the notion that films and culture are not content.
the Curb is a proudly inclusive, left-leaning website which respects and values LGBTQIASB+ folks, disabled voices, First Nations people, and anyone who is unjustly marginalised. This site is not a vessel for hate speech or those who seek to harm or vilify marginalised folk.
Writers for the Curb are representatives of the communities we stand alongside. Additionally, while we believe in the value and importance of allyship, we also recognise that it is not up to us to determine whether we are allies to the communities we seek to support, but rather the communities themselves. In this way, we listen, learn, and grow to be more empathetic and supportive folks.
