Stan Sport Kicks Off a Summer of Tennis Today With the Diriyah Tennis Cup

PRESS RELEASE

Stan Sport today announced a massive summer of tennis, kicking off with exclusive coverage of the star-studded Diriyah Tennis Cup (December 8-11), with ad-free, live and on demand coverage from this Thursday. This will be followed by the return of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (December 16-18) before all of the world’s best players assemble down under.

Stan Sport will also showcase the action from the United Cup (December 29 – January 8, replacing the ATP Cup), the Adelaide International (January 1-14) and Hobart International (January 9-14) in the lead up to the 2023 Australian Open (January 16-29).

Before then, the Diriyah Tennis Cup begins this Thursday 8 December and features a stacked lineup headlined by superstar Nick Kyrgios (Australia, World No. 22) and four of the top ten on the men’s ATP Tour – Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece, World No. 4), Daniil Medvedev (Russia, World No. 7), Andrey Rublev (Russia, World No. 8) and Taylor Fritz (USA, World No. 9), as well as Alexander Zverev (Germany, World No. 12),  Cameron Norrie (GBR, World No. 14), Matteo Berrettini (Italy, World No. 16), Dominic Thiem (Austria) and Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland). The tournament will include both singles and doubles action at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diriyah.

This is followed by the Mubadala World Championship (December 16-18) which will see new World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, alongside the French and US Open finalist, Casper Ruud, and defending Champion, Andrey Rublev. They will be joined by World No. 4, Stefanos Tsitsipas, US Open semi-finalist, Frances Tiafoe, and British No. 1, Cameron Norrie. In the women’s draw, World No. 2 and multi-time Grand Slam finalist, Ons Jabeur will take on 2021 US Open Champion, Emma Raducanu on Day 1.

Tennis royalty will descend on Dubai in December for the inaugural World Tennis League (December 20-25) headlined by Novak Djokovic, with world number one Iga Świątek leading the women’s entry list.

Tennis fans will then turn their attention to a jam-packed schedule of Australian Open lead-up events, starting with the United Cup, an 18-country teams’ event played over 11 days across Brisbane, Perth and Sydney from 29 December – 8 January.

The Adelaide International will be played over two back-to-back events from January 1 – 14 and will mark the return of Novak Djokovic to Australia since his triumphant Australian Open victory in 2021. Meanwhile tennis returns to Tasmania with the Hobart International from January 9-14 as the world’s best players finalise their preparations for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Headlining the summer of tennis, the 2023 Australian Open promises to be a blockbuster, with audiences craving just what this exhilarating event delivers every year – the biggest names, unforgettable matches and historic moments. Centre court will also be streamed in stunning 4K for the very first time, exclusively on Stan. Full match replays, mini matches and extended highlights will also be available on demand.

All eyes will be on Serbia’s Novak Djokovic who returns to Melbourne Park for the first time since his 2021 title and will be looking to equal defending champion Rafael Nadal’s unbeaten 22 Grand Slam win record – but he faces a new roadblock in his path, in the form of the young sensational World No.1, Carlos Alcaraz.

In the women’s draw, Iga Świątek will be hoping to clinch her first AO title and will be the favourite to do so, but will face a tough test in the surging Tunisian star Ons Jabeur, out to claim her first grand slam title after falling short twice. Aussie favourite Ajla Tomljanovic is also in career-best form at the moment, and will be hoping to repeat Ash Barty’s 2022 heroics.

The 2023 Australian Open kicks off a huge year of Grand Slam Tennis on Stan Sport, the only place to watch every match from AO, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
