Dino’s in the Outback Short Film EVIE Now Available Online

PRESS RELEASE

Short film ‘EVIE’ has its online premiere on the selective Youtube channel OMELETO, home of the worlds best short films.

Set in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia the film is a suspenseful ride that leads up to a climactic showdown between Evie and a vengeful dinosaur. At its heart, it’s a coming of age story about a father trusting that he’s taught his daughter everything she needs to know about the world as she heads out on her own.

The films festival journey highlights included premiering at SITGES International Film Festival – the best genre festival in the world, with a feature by Phill Tippett, the person responsible for the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, and then premiering in Australia at FLICKERFEST. The film won 4 best film awards and was nominated for many other technical awards including a GOLD ACS award for Cinematographer Meredith Lindsay. Other highlights include a department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Screening for the 70th Anniversary of Thai Australia Relations and being a finalist in the Film Pipeline Short Film Prize, the first Australian film to do so.

The film was shot by Meredith Lindsay with visual effects lead by Ben Wotton and music by Dmitri Golovko. The costume design was by Texx Montana and hair and makeup design by Kate Anderson. It stars Melody Rom (THE HEIGHTS), Ben Mortley (HOW TO PLEASE A WOMAN, ITCH, THE GATEWAY), Paul Montague (THREE SUMMERS, HENRY & AARON, SUPER DINGO) and Leon Ewing in his first foray into film.

EVIE marks the third collaboration between Alex and producer Kate Separovich and writer/editor Luke Martin.

Produced by Lake Martin Films the film is already being adapted into a feature-length version. A coming of age horror/thriller, EVIE is set in a world decimated by nuclear war, where barbaric clans and genetically modified dinosaurs roam the Australian countryside. Evie (Melody Rom) must venture alone to a distant farmhouse to seek medical supplies for her dying father (Ben Mortley).

Alex’s previous films include TINGLEWOOD, nominated for an AFI(AACTA) award for visual effects and HARVEY’S DREAM which premiered at Palm Springs. He previously shadowed David Petarca on Netflix series MARCO POLO and has his features shortlisted in the SHORE Scripts Competition and PAGE Screenwriting Competition.

Perth based producer, Kate Separovich was recently selected by Screenwest as part of their Celluloid Ceiling Initiative was the associate producer on Universals DIRT MUSIC with Angie Fielder (AQUARIUS) and Finola Dwyer (WILDGAZE).

Co-founder of Lake Martin Films, Luke Martin has over 20 years of experience in exhibition and previously won Best Screenplay at Adelaide Film Festival for Ronan’s Escape and was the editor of the feature film BALD and documentary PETER BROCK: 25 YEARS of HDT SPECIAL VEHICLES.
