Introducing “CHIQ DISCOTHEQ“: a futurist South Asian club-pop debut EP by Naavikaran. This genre bending soundscape combines elements of pop, electronica, rap and R&B promising to captivate audiences with its infectious rhythms and innovative sounds.
Previously awarded the 30 Under 30 LGBTIQ+ Leaders in Australia, Goddess Naavikaran is a Naarm based multidisciplinary artist, singer-songwriter,rapper, and theater producer.
CHIQ DISCOTHEQ holds hope for vibrant queer futures; the possibilities where our lives can exist beyond surviving, into thriving.
Produced by Levi Kohler, the EP features catchy pop hooks to pulsating electronic beats, smooth R&B melodies, and clever rap verses. It includes ZAI KI NAKA, a pop electronic Konkani track and world first in its genre, serving a reminder that home is never too far, no matter how far you go. DOULA and TRANNY GIRLFRIEND mould together a powerful sense of queer expression and societal defiance beautifully in an electronic rap backdrop. Think Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” for and by the gays and the theys. The EP then follows through with more visceral R&B sounds in PAPAYA with rawness of desire. There are moments of fun, cheeky, bold melanin power in PEDESTAL that would fit perfectly on your way to a rally. The EP closes with its title track CHIQ DISCOTHEQ a pulsating pop anthem pre-game that sets the mood for an unforgettable night.
