Elefant Traks Turns 20 – And Damn Right They’re Going to Celebrate

All the way back in 1998, Kenny Sabir started up Elefant Traks (which could have also gone by the name Rhinoceros Traks) – a powerful independent Aussie record label. Just like their ten year, fifteen year, and eighteen year celebrations, the team at Elefant Traks are celebrating in style with ET20.

Namely, with a set of three kick ass, talent packed shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, in November and December. The likes of The Herd, Hermitude, Urthboy, Horrorshow, L-FRESH the Lion, Jayteehazard, and a heck of a lot more, will be making their presence known at these sure to sell out concerts.

Alongside these concerts will be a trio of ET20 talks titled The Elefant in the Room. These will have the artists and friends of the label talking about Elefant Traks, sharing stories and experiences and a bunch more stuff. These talks are inspired by The Moth Series and Women of Letters, and will provide a different look at the work of Elefant Traks, one that’s outside the always great music.

For those unfamiliar with Elefant Traks, where have you been? Proudly political, always diverse, Elefant Traks has housed some of Australia’s finest musical talent. New voices like Aussie born Sikh-rapper L-FRESH the Lion, and indigenous artist Jimblah, have helped push the world of Aussie hip hop and rap into diverse new areas, while acts like Hermitude have pushed the art of electronic music into exciting new areas. And, of course, there’s the work of The Herd – delivering hip hop anthems like 2020, 77%, and The King is Dead – never has politics sounded so damn good.

So, do yourself a favour, if you’re around and about, grab a ticket and see these killer live shows – especially given how rare it is to see The Herd reunited.
